This is Hope Troupe...
music changing lives in Uganda
The Hope Cultural Troupe of Uganda
Hope Troupe consists of vibrant, energetic and extremely talented youth who are both excellent musicians and dancers. But what is truly unique about this performing arts group is the transformation it has brought to so many of its members’ lives.
Currently, the Hope Troupe Uganda consists of 35 members, determined to elevate the lives of poor and orphaned children through education, specifically training the children in dance and music. The troupe performs throughout Uganda, earning funds for food and transportation

Most of the members are orphans, living with extended family or single moms, but the common thread is poverty and need. Involvement in Hope Troupe has changed the course of many children’s lives. Hope Troupe provides a brighter future by empowering children with performing skills, overall education, and mentorship. Many of its members have been recipients of Global Village Connect's Give a Goat Program, which helps the children pay for school supplies, uniforms as well as providing nutrition.
A Message from Hope Troupe's Founder
Founding member Joseph Wandalada and program manager Rachman Nachman have a bigger plan and the journey is underway. They envision Hope Troupe becoming self-sufficient in the near future. This means having its own land, building a dorm so children can be protected and safe, maintaining their small herd of goats and planting crops to feed the kids.
The first step has been achieved. Hope Troupe purchased its own land early this year. (Global Village Connect contributed to the land purchase.) The next step will be building a student residence. “The dorm is critical”, says Nachman. “Right now, after performances, we get back late, and it is dangerous to send the kids home at that hour. There have been kidnappings. We need to have a safe place for the kids to stay when performing. Also, some of the kids don’t live in safe homes.” |
Fostering Personal Development
Part of the program and goals embraced by Hope Troupe includes establishing a sense of unity and community among its members, self-development and networking opportunities, providing HIV/AIDS and environmental awareness, teaching business skills and best farming practices. They want members to learn to nurture and support other needy people, and to learn to save for the future.
Ultimately, Hope Troupe has been very successful in fostering self-reliance, independence, responsibility, and caring among its members.
There is a sense of pure joy that emanates from the members of Hope Troupe Uganda when they’re performing. The children range in age from 5-25, and they have created a kind of family unit with the intention of using their skills as singers and dancers to build a bridge of understanding with their audiences, and to make a living. Global Village Connect is proud to play a role in helping the members of Hope Troupe realize their dreams.
