Building Entrepreneurial Spirit in Uganda
Uganda is one of the poorest countries in the world, leaving many people in rural areas unable to afford the basics such as food and education.
Our entrepreneurial training program, offered in partnership with the Street Business School, teaches participants how to own and operate their own businesses. With the skills learned in our business training program, graduates learn to run their own business, securing a steady income for themselves and their families. Businesses range from a wide variety of goods and services such as firewood and charcoal sales, beadwork, children's clothing, a saloon, retail shops, bakery, and more.

How Entrepreneurial Training Works
Over the six-month program, students work their way through eight modules: Getting out of your comfort zone • Business opportunity identification • Finding capital and starting small • Record-keeping and bookkeeping • Market research • Business planning • Growing your customer base • Money management
I had been on an extended maternity leave and I was not doing any income-generating activity. When I heard about the training, I decided to join. It gave me the encouragement to get out of my comfort zone. I was able to start my charcoal business and it is now three weeks old. I am happy because I get money from my business.” |
